Coastal Skipper SVOP OTW

Welcome to the Coastal Skipper SVOP with On Water Training, in this course you will receive all the certifications required*, along with intensive on water training and experience operating Small Non Pleasure Vessels. You will begin your training with a Water Taxi ride from Alder Bay to the remote Training Facility at Farewell Harbour Lodge located in the Broughton Archipelago. Your training begins the moment you step aboard.

All courses are not the same… don’t compare apples to oranges…this course includes room and board; that’s right your accommodation and food is provided, all that is needed is you. We will operate a variety of vessels, from a full size aluminum Water Taxi to smaller 21’ closed cabin tour vessels. You can also sign up for the Charter Fishing Guide Deck operations module.

Certifications included:
Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety – SDV-BS
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency – SVOP
Restricted Operator Certificate Maritime – ROC-M/VHF Radio
Also included is an individualized skill assessment document showing your abilities in the form of sign offs once skills are demonstrated to our prescribed standards. This can be shown to prospective employers as a reference to your skills and abilities.

The emphasis is on making you a safe and competent Small Vessel Operator.

Docking and close quarters maneuvering
Vessel trim, mooring and general Maintenance

Rough water avoidance and vessel handling tactics
Weather forecasts and forecasting
Radar Navigation including blind pilotage drills
Night operations including night runs
Vessel Stability
Vessel emergency drills with management tactics
Ropes Lines and knots,
Error Trapping, negative chain of events awareness
and so much more.
